5 Reasons You Aren’t Getting Organized
There are many reasons to get organized. I’ve blogged about them before – more time for yourself, saving money, having control and teaching your children the benefits of being organized and thus successful in life. So let’s talk this time about the reasons why people do not get themselves or their homes organized.
Most people just feel overwhelmed with the situation that they’re in and thinking about how they are going to possibly overcome it. Sometimes, ignoring the situation is the easiest thing to do.
The best way to overcome this feeling of being overwhelmed is to start small and categorize the jobs that need to be done. Start with something like a closet and leave the rest. Once the closet is completed, stand back and take pride in what you have accomplished. Now you can move on to something a little larger knowing that you have the ability to do it.
Lacking skills
A lot of people just don’t have the skills necessary for the project. Organizing is a specialized skill just like everything else and we all can’t be good at everything. Once you come to grips with that, enlist the help of a friend or relative that you trust and know is organized and get them to give you a hand. And don’t be afraid to enlist the services of a professional organizer. We’re trained to help you.
Clutter keeps returning
You have tried in the past but the clutter returns. If this has been your experience then you probably have not set up a system to stay organized after the initial work. Like everything else in life there is some maintenance to do and all family members need to be on side to keep things neat, organized and accessible. Remember the old saying “ a place for everything and everything has a place”? It applies nicely to being organized.
Too busy
I’m too busy. OK, to be honest, I know everyone is super busy these days but look at it this way and ask yourself a few tough questions. Are you too busy to make more time, or to save money, or to have an organized, neater looking home that you feel good about coming home to? I didn’t think so. Let’s move on.
Lacking space
You don’t have enough room for everything anyway. Ha! Gotcha on this one. Getting organized will actually give you more space. You just aren’t taking full advantage of the space you have and once you have pared down and edited your “stuff” , donated, sold or given away all those possessions you don’t want or need, you will be amazed at the extra space you do have.
